The termination and subsequent arrest of former Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore has evolved into a disturbing account of workplace misconduct, alleged violence, and a relationship that reportedly turned volatile long before police arrived on the scene.
A report from the New York Post alleges that Moore, 39, pulled a knife on a woman—identified as his executive assistant, Paige Shiver—and threatened suicide during a confrontation at her home Wednesday. The incident occurred just hours after the University of Michigan fired Moore for violating university policy regarding inappropriate relationships with subordinates.
The altercation appears to be the violent culmination of a months-long saga between the head coach and his staffer.
According to dispatch audio obtained by TMZ, Shiver told 911 operators that Moore had “stalked her for months” prior to the alleged attack. This timeline suggests that while the university’s investigation began with an anonymous tip in November, the dynamic between Moore and Shiver had likely deteriorated well before officials intervened.

“Male at the location is attacking her … said he’s been stalking her for months,” a male voice in the recording can be heard saying in the relevant portion of the audio — originating from the Washtenaw County Police and recorded between 4:06 p.m. and 4:36 p.m. on Dec. 10.
“It’s gonna be at the Well Church, 211 Willis Road … suicidal … driving a black Chevy Tahoe blacked out,” the Washtenaw County Police dispatcher can be heard saying.
At another point in the audio the dispatcher says the caller said Moore threatened her with a knife before running away and throwing down the weapon.
Shiver, who managed the day-to-day operations of the head coach’s office, was central to the university’s internal probe. Reports indicate the investigation initially stalled due to a lack of evidence but gained rapid momentum in recent days when those involved—presumably including Shiver—began cooperating with investigators. This cooperation provided the “credible evidence” Athletic Director Warde Manuel cited in his decision to fire Moore with cause.
The power dynamic inherent in a relationship between a head coach and his executive assistant was a primary factor in the university’s “zero tolerance” decision. However, the situation reportedly escalated from a policy violation to a safety threat as Moore’s behavior became increasingly erratic.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Thursday that Moore had been “acting strange” within Schembechler Hall for weeks leading up to his dismissal. Sources described the coach “berating assistant coaches” and “not acting in a normal way,” signaling an unraveling that was visible to those inside the program.
Following the altercation Wednesday, Moore was taken into custody by Pittsfield Township police and booked into the Washtenaw County Jail, where he was reportedly placed in mental health protective custody.
Moore, who had just completed his second full season as Jim Harbaugh’s successor, is scheduled to be arraigned Friday. Neither Shiver nor Moore’s representatives have issued public comments regarding the specific allegations of stalking or the events inside the residence.
