Henry Ruggs Bags Bachelor’s Degree While In Prison

Ex-NFL player Henry Ruggs earns Alabama Degree while locked up in Nevada.

Henry Ruggs just did something no one had on their bingo card. While sitting in a prison in Nevada, the former NFL player earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama. Yes, that Alabama. Congratulations!

Let’s get this straight. Ruggs once made headlines for running past defenders at lightning speed. Then he made headlines for reasons no one laughs about. His life crashed harder than a rookie corner trying to keep up with him. Football was gone. Fame was gone. Freedom was gone. All that was left was time. Lots of it.

And instead of wasting that time, Ruggs cracked open some textbooks.

Somewhere between prison walls and strict schedules, Ruggs finished his degree. No campus. No student section, yet he made it happen.

Eagle-eyed viewers spotted Ruggs‘ name under the Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Business Administration in the Tides fall commencement ceremony. NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reported that the 26-year-old finished the semester with a 4.0 GPA.

It’s a nice achievement for the 12th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft … who was sentenced to three-to-ten years in prison for causing the fatal crash in Sin City in August 2023.

Ruggs, who was driving his Corvette at 156 MPH before slamming into the back of a car being driven by Tina Tintor, killing her and her Golden Retriever, was initially facing over 50 years in prison.

Alabama has added another graduate to its list. Nevada’s prison system can say one inmate chose books over boredom. And Ruggs? He now owns something no judge can take away.
