New details have emerged about the final days of Sherrone Moore’s tenure at Michigan, revealing a chaotic sequence of events in which a personnel decision reportedly backfired, leading directly to the head coach’s termination and arrest.
A report from the New York Post indicates that executive assistant Paige Shiver initially denied allegations of an inappropriate relationship with Moore during the university’s early inquiries. However, the situation changed drastically when Moore allegedly fired her after she broke up with him.
The prosecutor also detailed that Moore had an “intimate relationship” with the woman he worked with for “a number of years” before she broke up with him on Monday.
The break-up prompted a flurry of calls and texts from Moore that the woman did not return. Moore is married to another woman, and they have three children.

According to the Maize and Blue Review, a subscription site focused on Michigan football, rumors about Moore’s extracurricular activities had been rampant around the program, to the point that Manuel personally questioned the head coach and the staffer about their relationship — and challenged anyone who confronted him about the whispers to provide proof so he could fire Moore “on the spot.”
Matters came to a head on Monday, according to the outlet, when Moore was advised not to work directly with the staffer and decided to fire her rather than transfer her to another job in the football program or the athletic department.
The woman reportedly went to Manuel and provided detailed evidence of the affair.
According to the report, Moore’s decision to terminate Shiver’s employment served as the catalyst for her decision to “come clean.” Following her dismissal by the head coach, Shiver reportedly went to Athletic Director Warde Manuel and provided the “credible evidence” necessary to prove the affair—including text messages and other documentation.
This sequence of events clarifies why the university’s investigation, which began with an anonymous tip in November, initially stalled before accelerating rapidly this week. It suggests that as long as Shiver and Moore were professionally aligned, the evidence remained hidden. Once Moore moved to cut ties with his assistant, she provided the administration with the proof they needed to fire him for cause.
The revelation also provides context for the alleged violence that followed on Wednesday. Hours after the university announced Moore’s firing, he was arrested at Shiver’s residence in Ann Arbor.
During a 911 call obtained by TMZ, a woman identified as Shiver told dispatchers that Moore was attacking her and had been “stalking her for months.” The timeline suggests Moore’s presence at her home may have been a reaction to discovering that she had turned over the evidence that cost him his job.
Moore, 39, remains in the Washtenaw County Jail and is expected to be arraigned Friday.
