New England Patriots defensive lineman Christian Barmore has been charged with one count of assault and battery on a family or household member following an alleged domestic incident in August, despite the victim’s later decision to withdraw her support for the prosecution.
The 26-year-old Barmore, a key player in the Patriots’ defense, is accused of physically assaulting his girlfriend during an argument at his Mansfield home on Aug. 8, 2025. The altercation reportedly began when Barmore woke up angry over the air conditioning being set at 70 degrees instead of his preferred 68 degrees. It escalated when he questioned why she was eating his food.
According to a Mansfield police report, as the woman attempted to leave the residence with their 2-year-old daughter, Barmore grabbed her phone and disconnected a call to her mother. When she tried to open the front door to scream for help, he allegedly threw her to the floor, grabbed her by the shirt near the neck, and then released her. Barmore also reportedly rushed at her without making contact, possibly stopped by the child jumping into her arms. The woman reported bruises from the incident and provided photos to police.
The couple has been in an on-and-off relationship for about 3.5 years and share the daughter; the woman is currently pregnant with Barmore’s second child. She initially reported the incident to police on Aug. 25, 2025, but hesitated due to fears of retaliation from Barmore and his associates, citing his status as an NFL player and his financial resources. She alleged Barmore threatened her, saying he would get his cousin to harm her and that his money could hire anyone to do so.
In September, the woman emailed police indicating her intent to proceed with charges. However, on Dec. 4, 2025, she sent another email stating she no longer wanted to move forward. Despite this, authorities issued a criminal complaint on Dec. 16, 2025, proceeding with the misdemeanor charge.
Barmore is scheduled for arraignment on Feb. 3, 2026, in Attleboro District Court.
The New England Patriots said in a statement that they were made aware of the incident at the time, informed the NFL promptly, and are monitoring the ongoing legal process while cooperating fully with the league. The team declined further comment.
Barmore has not publicly addressed the allegations. His availability for upcoming games, including potential playoffs, remains unclear.
