Disturbing new details emerged during Sherrone Moore’s arraignment Friday, painting a picture of a desperate man whose relationship with the victim was far more significant—and volatile—than initially understood.
According to a report from The Athletic’s Austin Meek, prosecutors revealed that during the alleged home invasion on Wednesday, Moore threatened to commit suicide in front of the victim. This revelation explains why the former Michigan head coach was placed in mental health protective custody immediately following his booking into the Washtenaw County Jail.
The disclosure adds a dark layer to the events that transpired just hours after Moore was fired for cause. Moore allegedly broke into the home of a staff member—identified as his former executive assistant Paige Shiver—armed with a knife.
Perhaps most revealing was the clarification regarding the nature of their involvement.
While initial reports described an “inappropriate relationship,” Meek reports that prosecutors stated the two had been involved for “several years.” This timeline suggests the affair spanned multiple seasons, potentially dating back to Moore’s time as offensive coordinator, rather than being a recent indiscretion.
The length of the relationship provides critical context for the stalking charge. In the 911 dispatch audio released earlier, the victim claimed Moore had been “stalking her for months,” a behavior consistent with the messy unraveling of a long-term partnership rather than a brief workplace fling.
