Wizards Don’t Want to Play Trae Young Because They Are Tanking For a Draft Pick

Trae Young is not expected to play too much for the Washington Wizards this season.

Let’s be honest. Trae Young in a Washington Wizards jersey sounds exciting. In reality, it’s more like a guest appearance. Think cameo, think limited series and think “don’t get too attached.”

Yes, Trae Young is technically a Wizard. No, that does not mean you’ll see him every night, or even most nights, or sometimes nights. This season is less about basketball and more about vibes, business decisions, and extremely cautious walking.

[Trae] Young was once a part of Atlanta’s long-term plans, but mounting evidence suggested the Hawks performed better with Young sidelined. From Oct. 31 to Dec. 14, he missed 22 games because of a knee sprain, and the Hawks posted a 13-9 record without him.

Young returned from his knee sprain on Dec. 18 and played five games (in which Atlanta went 0-5) and last played Dec. 27 before suffering a right quadriceps contusion. The sprain, though, is not fully healed, and Washington will give Young as much time as he needs to get completely healthy. He has a $49 million player option for the 2026-27 season.

Trae himself will be fine. He’ll drop occasional masterpieces just to keep Twitter loud. He’ll trend, he’ll remind everyone he’s still that guy. Then he’ll disappear for three games with something called “right foot awareness.”

This season isn’t about Trae winning games. It’s about Trae not getting hurt. It’s about preserving value. It’s about patience and maybe a top-five pick.

So no, Trae Young won’t play too much this season. And honestly, that might be the most Wizards thing ever.

Get your popcorn ready. Just don’t expect a full movie.
