Cam Newton Says a Woman Loses Value As She Has Kids

Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton ignited widespread criticism on social media Wednesday after stating on a podcast that a woman’s value decreases the more children she has, a remark made despite Newton himself being a father to nine children with three different women.

Newton, 36, appeared on the “It’s Giving Podcast” hosted by Sarah Fontenot, where he was asked if a woman’s value is lowered by having multiple children with multiple partners. He responded affirmatively, saying, “Women’s value get lower the more children that they have.” Newton added that he once advised one of his children’s mothers that if a potential partner isn’t willing to love all five of her kids, “he’s not the one for her.”

The comments quickly spread after music account @mymixtapez posted a clip on X, formerly Twitter, which amassed over 778,000 views, 4,400 likes, 857 quote tweets and more than 1,000 replies.

Newton, who won the NFL MVP award in 2015 and led the Carolina Panthers to Super Bowl 50, has eight biological children and one non-biological child he considers his own, shared with three women. He has previously discussed his family dynamics openly but has faced scrutiny for similar controversial remarks on gender roles.

Reactions on X were predominantly negative, with users highlighting the perceived hypocrisy. “The irony is loud. How can you contribute to the number of children a woman has and then claim it lowers her value? It feels like a double standard,” wrote @AyieMudley in a reply that garnered over 500 likes. Another reply from @DoudyCalls stated, “That’s a wild take coming from someone with 9 kids himself,” receiving more than 800 likes.

Quote tweets amplified the outrage. “I need people to stop talking to Cam Newton about anything. don’t even ask that nigga how his day is going!!” posted @KaRissiNykeia. @bytarrendiane added, “Reason 800 why staying single, celibate and child free as a women will lead to a better life lol this is truly how these men think even tho they are the ones impregnating women SICK.” User @VenusianAlchemy wrote, “Men like this disgust me. Yet we never talk about their extremely decreased value. Niqqa ran through talking about “value” 😂😂🫠🙄🖕🏾.”

Some users defended Newton or agreed with his view. In a reply, @TellingOnYou1 said, “He’s not wrong. Men and women are NOT the same. Women will still view cam as a prize and the baby mamas, are just that, HIS babymamas or possible another man’s baby mama.” Another, @Cordelra, commented, “Idk, I feel like social media is the only place that this actually exist cuz in real life or at least from what I’ve seen, women with kids get married to great men all the time.”

The backlash echoes previous controversies involving Newton, including his 2021 comments on women who “can’t cook” or “don’t know when to be quiet.”
