Matthew Stafford Promises To Return For 2026 Season After Winning MVP For 2025

Well, Matthew Stafford is not done yet, not even close. After winning NFL MVP for the 2025 regular season, the quarterback has promised to return to the Los Angeles Rams for the 2026 season. And yes, he beat out the shiny new favorite, Drake Maye, to take home the award. Experience just filed a formal complaint against hype.

Let’s start with the MVP part. Stafford, who many people politely assumed was in the “still good but not scary” phase of his career, decided to remind everyone that arm strength does not age. He lit up defenses, ignored Father Time, and casually played like a man who heard too many retirement rumors and took them personally. The stats were loud, the wins were louder. The doubters? Silent!

Meanwhile, Drake Maye had a fantastic season. Truly, young, talented and future face of the league energy. But Stafford came through like, “That’s cute. Hold my MVP.” Nothing stings more than losing an award to someone who’s been doing this since before you had a rookie contract.

After securing the MVP, Stafford made another announcement that sent Rams fans into a joyful spiral. He’s coming back for 2026.

“You’re unbelievable cheerleaders for me,” Stafford said. “I appreciate it. I am so happy to have you at the games on the sideline with me, and I can’t wait for you to cheer me on next year when we’re out there kicking [butt.]”

Stafford, who’ll turn 38 on Saturday, led the NFL in a pair of key passing stats. His 46 touchdown passes were 12 more than any other quarterback, and his 4,707 passing yards were the most in the league.

As a result of Stafford’s play, the Rams had one of their strongest seasons in team history.

Rams fans are loving it. Opposing defenses are not, and Drake Maye? He’ll be fine. But for now, he gets to live with the fact that his MVP campaign was blocked by a quarterback who refuses to exit the stage quietly.

So here we are, Matthew Stafford, NFL MVP, Rams quarterback, still dangerous, still petty enough to win awards and still very much not done. If 2025 taught us anything, it’s simple: never doubt a man who’s been counted out too many times and still has receipts.
