There are wholesome family moments and then there are celebrity wholesome family moments with just a sprinkle of awkward history. Enter Ciara’s son, Future Zahir, who is out here living his best life on a college tour. And guess who’s playing tour guide? None other than stepdad, Russell Wilson.
Yes, Russell Wilson. Mr. “Let’s ride.” Mr. Positivity. Mr. Unlimited college visits apparently.
Now, for those keeping score at home, Zahir is the son of Ciara and rapper Future. So yes, the family tree here has a little extra seasoning. But if there’s any tension, you won’t find it on this trip, because according to Zahir, he had a great time.
The couple’s eldest kids Future Zahir and Sienna Princess offered a look into their career goals during their latest family outing. And so far, Future Zahir’s recent visit to the University of Texas has him looking at his dad’s NFL quarterback career a little more closely.
“I’d be really happy going there in the future,” the 11-year-old told E! News in an interview alongside his family at the Fashion Scholarship Fund’s 89th Annual Gala March 24. “I had a really good time going there with my dad. It was just a really good experience for me and him.”
Indeed, the father-son duo toured the college’s athletic department earlier this month, and he posted a few highlights from the trip on Instagram. In the March 14 video, the two visited UT’s sprawling football field and batting cages, excitedly throwing up their “Hook ’em, Horns” symbol.
True to Russell’s supportive nature, he noted Future Zahir—who Ciara, 40, shares with ex-fiancé Future—could have “a bright future” ahead of him at UT, no matter what sport he pursues.
“I think the cool part with sports nowadays is that kids get recruited and looked at early,” the 37-year-old explained to E! “So, to be able to take him to a school where he would dream about playing? He’s so talented. He’s so good at basketball, football, and baseball.”
At the end of the day, Zahir said he had a good time. That’s what matters. No drama, no chaos. Just a kid touring colleges with his very enthusiastic stepdad.
And somewhere out there, Russell Wilson is probably already planning the next trip. Maybe campus number two comes with a PowerPoint presentation and a motivational speech.
