Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Dončić has ended his engagement to longtime fiancée Anamaria Goltes and is fighting for custody of their two young daughters, the 27-year-old guard confirmed Tuesday.
“I love my daughters more than anything and I’ve been doing everything I can for them to be with me in the U.S. during the season, but that hasn’t been possible, so I recently made the tough decision to end my engagement,” Dončić said in a statement to ESPN. “Everything I do is for my daughters’ happiness and I will always fight to be with them and give them the best life I can.”
Dončić and Goltes, both 27, met as teenagers in Slovenia and began dating in 2016. He proposed on July 7, 2023 — the same date as his jersey number, 77. Their first daughter, Gabriela, was born in November 2023 while Dončić was still with the Dallas Mavericks. Their second daughter, Olivia, arrived in December 2025 in Slovenia, shortly after Dončić signed a three-year, $165 million extension with the Lakers in August 2025.
The separation stems from disputes over the children’s residence. Dončić traveled to Slovenia for Olivia’s birth, missing two Lakers games, but a disagreement arose when he attempted to bring Gabriela back to the U.S. Police were called to Kranj Maternity Hospital on Dec. 6, 2025, though no criminal charges were filed, and Dončić left peacefully. He has not seen his daughters or Goltes since then.
In February 2026, Dončić filed an interim injunction in Slovenian courts seeking contact with his daughters. Sources close to the situation say he has provided unlimited financial support for the children, covering all expenses.
Separately, Goltes filed a petition in California on March 10 for child support and attorney fees related to the two minor children, according to court documents obtained by TMZ. The filing notes that Goltes moved back to Slovenia with the children in May 2025 and does not seek custody changes, only financial arrangements. It’s unclear if Dončić was aware of the petition prior to its filing.
Goltes, a fashion and fitness model, recently deleted all photos of the couple from her Instagram, fueling speculation about the split.
