Police were summoned to a maternity hospital in Slovenia last December during Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Dončić’s visit for the birth of his second daughter, amid an escalating dispute with his then-fiancée Anamaria Goltes over their children’s residence, according to multiple reports and court filings.
The incident occurred on Dec. 6, 2025, at Kranj Maternity Hospital, shortly after Goltes gave birth to the couple’s second daughter, Olivia. Dončić, who had traveled from the United States to his native Slovenia for the delivery, attempted to bring their older daughter, 2-year-old Gabriela, back to the U.S. with him, sources told ESPN. This led to a disagreement that prompted a call to authorities.
Slovenian media outlet Trma.si reported exclusively that the police intervention was triggered by Dončić’s behavior during his first visit to the hospital after the birth. The portal claimed Goltes called the police because Dončić was “acting out” or causing a disturbance in the facility. Another report from Sportissimo Republika, citing Trma.si, suggested Goltes’ mother may have made the call, describing the situation as serious enough for Goltes to seek help. The Slovenian reports speculated whether the episode hinted at deeper issues, including potential domestic violence, though no evidence or official accusations of maltreatment were detailed.
No criminal charges were filed in connection with the incident, and Dončić left the hospital peacefully, according to ESPN sources. Kranj police have not publicly commented on the matter, and representatives for Dončić and Goltes did not respond to requests for comment.
The hospital episode marked an early flashpoint in what has become a public custody battle. Dončić, 27, confirmed in a statement last week that he ended his engagement to Goltes, also 27, and is seeking custody of their daughters. “I love my daughters more than anything and I’ve been doing everything I can for them to be with me in the U.S. during the season, but that hasn’t been possible,” he said.
Court documents reveal Dončić filed an interim injunction in Slovenian courts in February 2026 to gain contact with the children. Goltes, a fashion and fitness model, relocated to Slovenia with the girls in May 2025 and filed a petition in California on March 10, 2026, for child support and attorney fees, without seeking changes to custody arrangements.
Slovenian media have reported rumors that the couple’s relationship deteriorated before Olivia’s birth, with some outlets alleging infidelity on Dončić’s part and suggesting the split occurred months earlier. Trma.si, in its January 2026 report, questioned why the incident received little media attention initially, attributing it to respect for the family’s privacy despite Dončić’s high-profile status.
Dončić and Goltes, who met as teenagers in Slovenia, began dating in 2016 and got engaged in July 2023. Gabriela was born in November 2023 in Dallas, while Dončić played for the Mavericks. Olivia’s birth in Slovenia came shortly after Dončić’s August 2025 signing of a three-year, $165 million extension with the Lakers.
On the court, Dončić continues to excel, averaging 32.5 points, 8.4 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game for the Lakers (39-25). The team hosted the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night.
Neither party has addressed the hospital incident publicly beyond Dončić’s recent statement on the custody fight.
