Social Media Reacts to Angel Reese Being Traded to Atlanta Dream

Two-time WNBA All-Star Angel Reese has been traded from the Chicago Sky to the Atlanta Dream, the teams announced Monday.

The Sky sent Reese, the 2024 No. 7 overall pick out of LSU, and the right to swap 2028 second-round picks to Atlanta in exchange for the Dream’s 2027 first-round pick and 2028 first-round pick. Reese, 23, has led the WNBA in rebounding in each of her first two seasons and earned All-Star honors both years.

The move comes after the Sky finished 10-34 in 2025 and made recent moves to protect their core ahead of the expansion draft. Chicago general manager Jeff Pagliocca called the deal one that “represents a great opportunity for all parties” and thanked Reese for her contributions.

For the Dream, who have built around guards Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray, Reese adds a dominant frontcourt presence and a marketable star to boost attendance. Atlanta moved several 2026 home games — including matchups featuring Reese and Caitlin Clark — to the larger State Farm Arena earlier this year in response to surging demand.

Social media lit up within minutes of the announcement as fans, journalists and the league reacted in real time.

NBC News posted: “WNBA all-star Angel Reese is being traded from the Chicago Sky to the Atlanta Dream, the teams announce.”

The Playmakerz Network called it “BREAKING NEWS: The Chicago Sky have traded 2-time All-star Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream for a 2027 & 2028 1st Round Draft picks.”

Fans weighed in with a mix of excitement and shock.

“Angel Reese traded to ATLANTA!!! Love that move,” wrote @ImDonnieB.

“Angel Reese traded to Atlanta is crazy lol,” posted @suwopszn.

“Angel Reese getting traded to Atlanta just made my day,” said @DivineJ67568118.

One harsher reaction came from @Mrcuse1: “That Angel Reese trade is perfect because as soon as she’s done being bad at basketball she can immediately start working at the Atlanta strip clubs. Win-Win.”

Reese herself appeared to embrace the move on social media, posting a message welcoming the new chapter in Atlanta.

The trade is one of the biggest of the young 2026 WNBA offseason and reshapes the landscape in the Eastern Conference, where the Dream now add a proven rebounder and box-office draw to a team already positioning itself as a contender. The Sky, meanwhile, gain future draft capital as they look to rebuild.
