Watch Skydiver Get Blown Into Scoreboard During Pre-game Theatrics At Lane Stadium

Nothing says “welcome to spring football” like a skydiver accidentally trying to become part of the stadium decor.

At Lane Stadium, things took a sharp turn from hype to “ is that supposed to happen?” during the pre-game theatrics for the Virginia Tech spring game. A skydiver, meant to deliver a dramatic entrance, instead delivered a full-speed collision with the giant scoreboard. Yes, the scoreboard. Not the field, not the end zone. The scoreboard, because why land safely when you can make an unforgettable entrance?

Spectators watched as the parachutist came in a little too hot and a little too off target. The result? A loud impact that instantly killed the party mood. One second it’s music and cheers, the next, it’s 60,000 people collectively going, “Oh no.”

Footage captured by spectators showed the skydiver hitting the structure with significant force before their parachute became entangled in the screen.

The impact was so severe that portions of the scoreboard’s paneling appeared to be ripped away, falling into the empty space below as the stadium fell silent.

The parachutist was eventually rescued by emergency services, before Virginia Tech released a statement providing an update on the situation.

‘We are grateful to report that the skydiver was safely secured and is currently stable,’ Virginia Tech Athletics said via X.

‘Our primary focus remains on their well-being. We extend our sincere appreciation to the first responders, event staff, and medical personnel for their swift, coordinated and professional response.’

Pre-game stunts are supposed to be flashy, not terrifying. You want fireworks, music, maybe a dramatic run-out. You do not want a live-action lesson on gravity and poor timing.

Still, this will go down as one of the most unforgettable spring game moments ever. Not for the plays. Not for the players. But for one skydiver who definitely made an entrance… just not the right one.

Next time, maybe just stick to running through a banner. Way less risky.
