Detroit really turned Game 5 into a full-blown celebrity convention Wednesday night. The basketball was intense, the crowd was loud, and somehow Mary Sheffield ended up stealing attention by posing courtside with rap legends 50 Cent and Eminem during the Pistons and Cavaliers playoff showdown.

Honestly, if you saw the photo without context, you’d think somebody accidentally generated the most Detroit image possible using artificial intelligence.

The atmosphere inside Little Caesars Arena was electric as fans packed the building hoping the Pistons could protect home court. Instead, they got emotional damage served fresh in overtime.

The Cavaliers escaped with a 117-113 win after going on a brutal 9-0 run late in the fourth quarter. Just when Detroit fans started preparing victory tweets, Cleveland basically snatched the controller and changed the script.

And then there was James Harden.

Yes, somehow Harden dropped 30 points, eight rebounds, and six assists while calmly crushing Detroit’s hopes one free throw at a time in overtime. Pistons fans watching those final minutes probably aged seven years collectively.

Meanwhile, courtside looked like the VIP section of a music awards show.

Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield appeared cool and collected while posing with 50 Cent and Eminem, two men who basically represent Detroit culture like official city landmarks at this point.

50 Cent, of course, looked completely comfortable soaking in the attention. The man treats every public appearance like a victory lap. Eminem, meanwhile, kept his usual mysterious energy going, looking like he still can’t believe people recognize him after only being one of the biggest rappers in human history.

Now the Pistons head back to Cleveland trailing 3-2 in the series, which means the pressure just skyrocketed. Detroit fans are praying for a comeback while Cavaliers fans are already warming up their “series over” tweets.

Still, one thing is certain: even with the painful loss, Detroit managed to remind everybody why the city stays undefeated when it comes to culture, music, and celebrity moments.
