On dating apps, a 44-year-old lady Aurora Phelps with a bad temper and a preference for older guys charms them and then leads them down a very risky path.
The FBI has cautioned that an American woman accused of murder in Mexico used dating apps to target older men for years before luring them into her trap.
Aurora Phelps, 44, is scheduled to be extradited to the United States to face charges of fraud and kidnapping. Her murder trial in Mexico started on Tuesday.
Phelps, a dual US-Mexican citizen who was born in Arkansas, is charged with the December 2021 murder of retired US citizen Robert Erbach, 67, who was residing in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Erbach took Phelps to see his friend’s band at the Hard Rock Hotel in Guadalajara after they supposedly met on Tinder and dated for around three months.
According to The Los Angeles Times, Erbach was discovered dead from asphyxiation on the side of the road two days later. Phelps allegedly stole $50,500 from Erbach’s bank accounts and started driving his vehicle, according to the prosecution.
Phelps allegedly pretended to be Erbach and contacted his son in January 2022, saying he had relocated to Ecuador. She allegedly tried to get in touch with his union and change the bank account details for his pension fund, according to investigators.
In February 2023, she was detained at a Guadalajara bank and accused of murder. Since then, she has been detained in a Mexican prison.
