A federal judge has ordered NFL wide receiver Stefon Diggs to provide a more detailed explanation of his relationship with the man accusing him of sexual assault, ruling that describing him simply as an “acquaintance” is insufficient.
U.S. District Court Chief Magistrate Judge Timothy J. Sullivan issued the ruling last week in ongoing discovery disputes tied to Diggs’ defamation lawsuit against Christopher Blake Griffith. Griffith, a social media influencer, has accused the New England Patriots player of drugging and sexually assaulting him in May 2023 at Diggs’ residence in Rockville, Maryland.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ Sports, Griffith asked Diggs to describe their prior relationship. Diggs responded that they were acquaintances. The judge directed Diggs to instead give a “truthful, complete, and non-evasive response” detailing how the two knew each other before the alleged incident.
The order also requires Diggs to provide fuller answers about his interactions with Griffith in May 2023 and identify others present at his home that night. Diggs must comply within 14 days of the June 3 ruling or face potential sanctions.
Diggs scored a partial victory in the same ruling, as the judge determined he does not have to answer questions about any prior possession or distribution of controlled substances.
Background of the Dispute
Griffith’s allegations stem from an evening that began after a charity basketball game in Washington, D.C. According to filings, the group, including influencers, went to a club and later to Diggs’ home. Griffith claims he was drugged and assaulted there. He further alleges that days later, Diggs orchestrated a violent attack against him outside his Los Angeles apartment.
Diggs has vehemently denied the claims. In November 2025, he filed a defamation lawsuit against Griffith, asserting that the influencer fabricated the story for online attention and clout, causing reputational harm.
The case has drawn additional scrutiny due to separate incidents, including video footage showing Diggs’ brother, Darez Diggs, involved in an elevator assault. Darez later pleaded no contest to felony assault in a related matter.
Separate Legal Matters
This civil case is distinct from other legal issues Diggs has faced. Earlier this year, he was acquitted in a criminal trial involving allegations from a former personal chef.
Diggs, a veteran receiver known for his time with the Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills and now the Patriots, has continued his NFL career amid the litigation. No criminal charges have been filed against him in connection with Griffith’s claims.
