Rashee Rice, a wide receiver for the Chiefs, was released from a Dallas County jail on Tuesday after serving a 30-day sentence for breaking the terms of his probation due to his involvement in an automobile accident on a Texas highway that injured several persons.
The 26-year-old Rice had been booked into the jail on May 19 after testing positive for THC. After being freed, Rice hurried by a few reporters and got into an SUV that was waiting to take him out of the building.
About a week prior to his sentencing, Rice underwent surgery to remove debris that had been causing irritation in his right knee. He was ambushed by media on release.

His attorneys requested that he be permitted to receive treatment at Parkland Hospital while serving his sentence, and the judge granted their request.
Rice did not participate in the Chiefs’ required minicamp, which ended last week, or their optional offseason exercises. However, Chiefs coach Andy Reid has stated that he anticipates his timely arrival at training camp at the end of July.
Reid stated:
“(Chiefs trainer) Rick (Burkholder) has talked to him more than what I have just making sure that everything was set there where he could do some rehab with it and still do the time that he needed to take care of. So he’s on top of that, and thank goodness that they’re allowing him to do that. So, they’ve been great with that.”
“We’re moving forward as normal as we go here” “When he gets back, we’ve got to get him caught up in doing what he needs to do, and make sure he gets it. It’s not an easy thing he’s going through.
“Life lessons are important,” “but we’re all given chances to learn, and he’s in that position now.”
Rice is expected to boost the Chiefs’ offense, which frequently faltered during a poor 6-11 season. When he has been active, he has contributed to the Chiefs’ 2023 Super Bowl victory by catching 156 catches for 1,797 yards and 14 touchdowns.
