Victor Wembanyama had another “welcome to the NBA” moment, and this one felt straight out of a comedy sketch.
A fan decided that watching the game was not enough, so he did what every rational person definitely should not do. He ran onto the court. His mission was simple: take a selfie with Victor Wembanyama.
The incident happened right after Wembanyama checked back into the game for the final stretch. He was locked in, focused, probably thinking about defense, rebounds, and towering over everyone like a walking skyscraper with handles.

Then suddenly, a fan appears on the court like he was subbed in by mistake. No warm-up, no jersey. Just pure confidence and a phone camera ready for action.
Victor Wembanyama was asked about the fan who ran onto the court during the game and whether he smiled for the selfie. https://t.co/los9s0UBNm pic.twitter.com/g6DIbSVQpn

At that point, Wembanyama was facing a 92-86 deficit against the New York Knicks. His highly anticipated NBA Finals debut had not gone according to plan. The 22-year-old had struggled to that point, shooting 5 of 15 from the field and 1 of 6 from 3-point range while scoring 18 points.
Although his superstardom was magnetic enough to draw a fan from the crowd onto the court, it wasn’t enough to give the Spurs a lead heading into the final stretch. Wembanyama promptly scored six points, including a stepback 3, over the next three minutes to pull San Antonio within one. He finished the game with 26 points on 6-of-21 shooting in 38 minutes.
He didn’t exactly pose for any mid-game pictures. His focus remained fixed on the Knicks and trying to get the Spurs back into position to win Game 1 as they struggled to keep pace with the Knicks, who eventually pulled away for the 105-95 victory.
According to Victor, he didn’t really know how to react. And honestly, who would? One second you’re defending the paint, the next second you’re part of someone’s Instagram highlight reel without agreeing to it.
If anything, the moment added another chapter to his growing list of “NBA experiences nobody warned me about.”

Lesson learned? Probably not, but if you ever plan to run onto a court for a selfie, don’t.
Unless you’re okay with security, embarrassment, and the possibility that the player might just smile at you like he’s questioning all of humanity at once.
