A New Jersey woman fought her way out of a terrifying sex-trafficking situation after months of alleged abuse. The case has now led to the arrests of Dezeree Smith and Tamier Brown-Miller.
According to prosecutors, the woman was allegedly held against her will and sexually abused over an extended period. Investigators say she was also threatened with the murder of her family if she refused to cooperate.

The alleged threats were not just about the victim herself. Prosecutors say the suspects allegedly used her family as leverage. It is the kind of cruelty that makes you wonder how anyone could look at another human being and think this was acceptable.
Now, two alleged traffickers are facing a staggering list of charges, according to the NJ Attorney General’s Office.
Tamier Brown-Miller, of Philadelphia, and Dezeree Smith, of Collingswood, N.J., were indicted last week on charges including kidnapping, human trafficking, racketeering and promoting prostitution.
Authorities say the pair ran a commercial sex trafficking operation between July and October 2025, moving victims through Cherry Hill, Atlantic City, Gloucester City and Philadelphia. One of the victims was a girl under 18.
One adult victim first met Brown-Miller and Smith through social media and initially considered them friends, according to court records.
That changed during a house party in Philadelphia, where Brown-Miller — whom she knew as “Mier” — allegedly threatened to kill her family if she refused to work for him. Prosecutors say he made good on those threats about two years later, when he kidnapped her.
The woman was standing outside a 7-Eleven near Brown-Miller’s Philadelphia neighborhood when a black car with tinted windows pulled up. Brown-Miller sat in the passenger seat while another man drove.
Terrified because Brown-Miller allegedly always carried a handgun and had threatened her family again, she got into the car, investigators said.
While true-crime stories often get packaged like entertainment, there is nothing entertaining about what this woman allegedly experienced.
She was taken to a Holiday Inn in Philadelphia, where prosecutors say she was forced to have sex with men for money over the next two days. She was then driven across the Delaware River to the Super 8 Motel in Gloucester City.
Brown-Miller allegedly confiscated her phone and posted online escort advertisements offering her for commercial sex.
Her chance to escape came when she quietly told one customer the horrifying truth. She said she was being trafficked and begged him for help.
At some point, Smith allegedly returned the woman’s phone but warned her she was not allowed to leave — telling her Brown-Miller would shoot and kill her if she tried.
The woman took the risk anyway — and secretly ordered a rideshare and attempted to flee.
Prosecutors say Smith attacked her before she could escape, sparking a violent struggle that spilled out of the motel room and up a staircase, where residents stepped in and called police.
And thankfully, she made it.
