Love stories in the NBA usually start with flashy parties, expensive vacations, or someone sliding into DMs. But according to Giannis Antetokounmpo, his journey with his wife, Mariah Riddlesprigger, was surprisingly simple. No games, no drama. Just good timing and good vibes.
During a recent conversation, Giannis shared how he first met Mariah, and his version sounds like something straight out of a romantic comedy. The Milwaukee Bucks superstar said he knew almost immediately that she was someone special.
According to Giannis, Mariah told him she wanted to get to know him better, so instead of making things complicated, he suggested they meet in Miami. Simple enough.
Then came the part that had everyone laughing. Giannis joked that plenty of women respond with, “You’re going to fly me out?” He shook his head while telling the story, making it clear Mariah wasn’t playing those games.
Instead, about a week later, he was already in Miami, and she showed up. No unnecessary demands, no celebrity treatment. Just two people meeting face to face.
Giannis Antetokounmpo shares story of how he met his wife in Miami:
“I knew she would be my wife immediately…. She was like ‘I want to get to know you’ so I said let’s meet in Miami. A lot of girls say ‘you gonna fly me out?’ (giannis shakes head). A week later I was in Miami,… pic.twitter.com/c09KRQPlFn

That’s when everything changed. The moment Giannis saw her, he said to himself, “That’s the person I can be with.”
Talk about making a decision quickly. Some people spend years figuring out if someone is “the one.” Giannis apparently needed just one meeting, and according to him, Mariah has been by his side ever since.
From that trip to Miami until today, Giannis says she has never left his side.

For Giannis and Mariah, one trip to Miami turned into a marriage, a growing family, and one of the NBA’s most admired relationships. Not every love story needs fireworks. Sometimes, all it takes is one meeting, the right person, and perfect timing.
