Actor Samuel Monroe Jr. of “Menace II Society” passed away on Wednesday. He was fifty-two.
The actor’s death from meningitis was reported on Facebook by Monroe Jr.’s family. The actor’s mother, Joyce Patton, stated, “I want to thank all of my Facebook family and friends, new and old, for praying for Samuel Monroe, Jr., my son.”
She revealed:
“But today God called him home. Please honor my final request to pray for the family especially his 3 children,”
While working in Las Vegas, Monroe Jr. first became infected with meningitis. The infection allegedly got worse over the next few months as a result of multiple hospitals misdiagnosing him.
The “Player’s Club” star was admitted to the hospital in April when the infection spread to his brain and spine, resulting in kidney problems and MRSA pneumonia.
Monroe Jr. started exhibiting fleeting flashes of optimism the next month: he had stopped dialysis, was attentive, and could breathe for hours on end.
But when the actor had more than 20 consecutive seizures in July, his health deteriorated. Monroe Jr. also had three brain surgeries due to severe brain edema and fluid leakage. The “Set It Off” actor was put on life support and put into a medically induced coma earlier this month.
In 1992, Monroe Jr. made his acting debut as Dion on the NBC sitcom “Out All Night.” Monroe Jr. landed his breakthrough performance in the critically acclaimed drama “Menace II Society” the following year.
