A barber who said he used to cut Love’s hair posted old video this weekend of the 35-year-old showing up for appointments in expensive cars, helmet in hand, while commenters on the original clips already called him a scammer. A separate, lengthy voice note Love sent the barber then laid out why, in Love’s telling, his name never appeared on an NFL roster.
In the recording, described by the football account MLFootball and other posters who circulated the full video, Love said NFL “waivers” have physical, mental and emotional portions. He said he failed the physical after breaking and dislocating a finger. He still claimed he dressed, practiced and traveled with the 49ers, stayed in team hotels and followed team curfew. He also criticized women who questioned the career story, saying they “don’t understand how the NFL roster works” and that 99.9% of the world would never understand his situation.
🚨🚨THIS IS INSANE🚨🚨

The barber videos matter because they show the same costume work prosecutors described in the complaint: team gear, luxury cars and a helmet treated like a credential. Court coverage has said investigators traced more than $1,160 in purchases to a custom-helmet vendor. A late-2024 video showed Love appearing to sign a contract and answering that he was signing with the “Niners.” He has also been shown sending screenshots of Google results, including AI overviews, that listed him as a player. Representatives for the 49ers and the NFL have said he never worked for them. There is no public record of Love on an NFL roster.
That is why the waiver story is the tell.
In the real NFL, the waiver system is a claim process after a team releases a player who is subject to waivers. Other clubs can claim him during a set window. If no team claims him, he becomes a free agent. There is no “mental” or “emotional” waiver exam, and failing a physical does not secretly park a player with a team while erasing him from every public roster. Players who dress, practice, travel, stay in team hotels and observe curfew are typically on a 53-man roster, injured reserve, the practice squad or another official list. Those lists are published. A broken finger does not create an invisible fourth roster.
Love’s version inverted the purpose of waivers. Instead of explaining a release, it explained an absence. If a woman — or a barber, or anyone watching Instagram — asked why his name was not on 49ers depth charts, transaction wires or Pro Football Reference, the answer was that roster rules were too obscure for ordinary people. The injury became the reason he could still claim the lifestyle without the paper trail. The same message that later went to the barber had already been used, in shorter form, on at least one woman online.
