Kevin Durant has spent years surrounded by famous athletes, celebrities, coaches and executives, but some of his closest friends? Regular people with regular jobs.
Yes. Durant recently shared how some of his best friendships started more than 10 years ago while playing video games. No NBA connections, no fancy parties, and no celebrity networking. Just a bunch of people sitting around playing games and talking trash.

Honestly, that might be the most normal thing Kevin Durant has ever done.
“They hung out with me in my house. They been friends with me for damn near 10 years now. They, like one of my best friends I met on the game. And it’s like I trust this dude with anything,” Durant said in an interview with “Boardroom.”“Like, seriously. We hung out plenty of times, so I’m like, let me see what this dude really about. Peeping him the whole time.”
“It’s a group of us. I’m just like, because I’m sitting down talking to this dude every day on the game. I find myself talking to this dude every day for months. I’m like, let me, I gotta chill with y’all. It’s five of them. And I chilled and I’m just like, oh, these some solid dudes, man. Just became friends,” KD exclaimed. “My mans. I call right now, he gonna pick the phone. They got nine to five. And I’m like, how y’all got so much time to play the game with me? My job is from nine to eleven in the summer. I go to work, and I don’t have to do that. I just go do that because I love to do it.”
“How y’all got so much time to play the game? And just like, man, this my safe haven for real. This what I do to decompress. Yeah. It’s ten of us in a party. We competitively playing the game,” he added.
Durant could easily have a phone filled with famous names. He has played with some of the biggest stars in basketball, he has met countless celebrities, he has access to rooms most people will never enter, yet some of his strongest friendships came from random gaming sessions.
Apparently, you do not need courtside seats to build a real friendship. Sometimes you just need a headset, a controller and somebody who refuses to pass the ball.
Over time, those gaming friendships grew into something much bigger.
Durant found something different online, that is actually pretty refreshing.
