The Fall of 2027 is going to be one of the most fascinating in gaming history. The huge expected drop of GTA VI is of course taking the headlines but the fall is also seen as the peak time for those of us who follow sports games. In this we will be looking at some of the biggest sports games expected to come out in the late season this year as we anticipate some major franchises adding to their output.
EA FC 27
This is supposed to be a big one from EA Sports, the rebrand from FIFA to EA FC has seen them make some big changes to the series with more game modes included in the kick-off mode and the inclusion of women’s players to Ultimate Team and Women’s Career modes to the game. This should be just the beginning of an overhaul for a series that is facing some declining interest compared to the heights of the Alex Hunter-centred years.
There are some rumours that this could be the year that the stagnant and outdated career mode finally sees some changes. Up until now, players who want to take the game offline and manage their favourite English Premier League clubs were met with a pretty surface level experience with a lot of annoying quirks that could ruin a save for no reason.
The player career mode is equally as poor with manager trust eroding with no rhyme or reason a lot of the time. With the developers reportedly focusing on the offline mode and making more additions, we could finally see offline players get a career mode that we deserve from the only major football simulation title on the market.
Football Manager 27
After a year off, Sports Interactive made their return with the reinvigorated and slightly rebranded Football Manager 26. Unfortunately, this game was torn to shreds by their community as the UI was brand new, very offputting, and in some cases extremely buggy. The tactical overhaul meant nothing as players were thrown into a buggy, difficult to play experience that attempted to fix what wasn’t broken.
Old problems like in-universe simulations, financial issues, players acting like psychopaths at the smallest slights, and obvious tactical metas weren’t addressed which left the new UI looking less like a necessary change and more like an attempt to repaint over the cracks.
FM27 might be one of the most important releases the studio will have for some time. The fanbase is willing to take one bad game as the team gets to grips with the new engine and UI but another title with major issues and smaller details being broken will destroy the relationship between fan and developer for a long time to come.
NBA 2K27
The number one basketball simulation game in the world, NBA 2K is always one to watch from sports fans in the latest gaming news. The title and series that really innovated the single player RPG style career mode, NBA 2K is a game that has an angle of appeal every single year. The storyline within the career mode is one thing, but the Eras and GM simulation are another way to have some fun, rebuilding your favourite team or simulating into the future to see how the newest round of draft picks get on in their NBA careers.
The W is also an offline career mode that has been, to date, free from microtransactions, so those who want to go toe-to-toe with stars like Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark can take to the court and let their skills do the talking.
