OnlyFans model Courtney Clenney pleaded guilty Monday to manslaughter in the 2022 stabbing death of her boyfriend, Christian Obumseli, under a deal that could see her released from prison in less than two years.
Clenney, who had been charged with second-degree murder, agreed to a six-year prison sentence. She will receive credit for the approximately four years she has already spent behind bars since her August 2022 arrest. With that credit applied, she could walk free in a little more than a year and a half, according to details of the agreement reported by TMZ.
As part of the plea, Clenney must complete mental health and substance abuse treatment after her release. She is being transferred from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center to a Florida state prison facility to serve the remainder of her sentence.
Prosecutors and Clenney’s attorneys reached the plea agreement last month, but the specific terms were not made public until Monday. The deal avoids a trial on the more serious murder charge, which carried the possibility of life in prison.
Obumseli, 27, was fatally stabbed in the couple’s Miami apartment in April 2022. Clenney, then 26, claimed she acted in self-defense, telling investigators she grabbed a knife during an argument and warned Obumseli not to come closer. Body-camera footage from the scene showed Clenney covered in blood and repeatedly asking officers whether she had killed him.
Clenney was arrested months later in Hawaii and extradited to Florida to face charges. The case drew widespread attention because of her online modeling career and the dramatic circumstances of the killing.
Attorney Larry Handfield, who represents Obumseli’s family, said after the plea deal was first reported that the resolution would bring his clients “much-needed closure.”
Clenney’s case has been the subject of extensive media coverage, including a TMZ documentary examining the relationship and the fatal incident.
