Nolan Wells’ Cause Of Death Revealed

The death of 18-year-old Nolan Wells has taken another major turn. A Mississippi grand jury has concluded that no criminal charges should be filed in connection with his death.

Wells disappeared during a Fourth of July outing with friends near Horn Island, Mississippi. His body was found in the water two days later. The case quickly drew national attention as his family and the public searched for answers about what happened.

Now, investigators have provided their latest conclusion.

According to the Jackson County grand jury report, the position, condition, location and time of discovery of Wells’ body were consistent with drowning. The jury said it found no evidence of a fatal injury or criminal conduct connected to his death.

That conclusion is important, but it does not mean every question has been answered.

According to the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s autopsy report, Nolan‘s manner of death was ruled “undetermined” — and the Grand Jury found “that the position of, the condition of, time of discovery, and location of Mr. Wells body is consistent with drowning.”

D.A. McIlrath put out a video in which she repeated that there’s “no evidence” to suggest Nolan’s death was “racially motivated.”

After the Grand Jury’s decision, Edward Andrew Paltzik, an attorney for Nolan’s friends, told us, “We said it all along: Warren Hudson, Jax Pitalo, and Morgan Seymour were always completely innocent. There was never any doubt. They are terrific people.”

For Wells’ family, the decision may not bring the closure they wanted.

For now, the official finding is clear: prosecutors will not bring criminal charges over Nolan Wells’ death.

But for a family still grieving the loss of a teenager, the absence of charges does not automatically mean the absence of pain. Some questions can remain long after an investigation reaches its legal conclusion.
