So as you all probably know by now, there is this guy who plays some sport, who is going to be making some sort of announcement on Thursday regarding where he will be relocating for the upcoming season, and this announcement will be made on an hourlong ESPN special airing at 9pm EST.
Well, now the location where this Earth-shattering announcement will be made has been made public … LeBron James will be making his free agent announcement from Greenwich, Connecticut, according to various sources.
Newsday reports:
Multiple sources told Newsday that LeBron James’ one-hour special on ESPN, called “The Decision”, will be broadcast from a studio in Greenwich, Conn.
The show will air at 9 p.m. on Thursday night on ESPN and James will announce his destination of choice. There was a belief that James would make the announcement from his hometown of Akron, Ohio, which would lead to speculation…
Now before we make any assumptions about if this is some sort of indicator as to where he will be going, you should know that Connecticut is where ESPN headquarters is located (Bristol to be exact), so the location could just mean that he wanted a spot in close proximity to the headquarters.
BUT
On the other hand … Connecticut, for those of you who are not aware, is Tri-State territory and the choice of holding the announcement in Greenwich specifically is questionable. Clearly, the most common assumption is going to be that “LeBron is making his announcement from Connecticut, Knicks or Nets,” which may be a correct assumption at this point — but I am starting to think that this is all just a game LeBron is playing with the public. At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if the announcement occurred like the following:
“After much time and consideration, I have decided I will be joining the ……….”
*Screen goes black like the finale of The Sopranos.*
People are also forgetting that LeBron’s NBA brethren Carmelo Anthony is getting married in Connecticut this week, so that could be a reason for the location. But in the case that this is any indication that he will be joining one of the two tri-state area teams in the Knicks or the Nets, then I hope he does this special live from the house of Allan Houston, who coincidentally also lives in Greenwich.
On a non-LeBron related note, reruns of “Martin” will be shown tomorrow on BET9 at the exact same time as the LeBron announcement.
You Make The Choice!
PS: for those who are unfamiliar with Greenwich, it’s nothing to play with … just ask the Mean Street Posse
