Former Kansas City Chiefs Running back Christian Okoye a.k.a. the Nigerian Nightmare, is pissed off at the President of Nigeria for his failure to take immediate action after over 200 Nigerian girls were kidnapped by the Boko Haram terrorist group nearly a month ago.
Via TMZ:
“It had been almost 4 weeks and [Jonathan] hadn’t done anything,” Okoye says … “I’m happy people outside the country got involved because it prompted [him] to finally do something about it.”
Over the last two weeks the story went global with some of the most powerful people joining in the conversation from Justin Timberlake, Tracee Ellis Ross and Khloe Kardashian. Even First Lady Michelle Obama raised awareness with the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls.
Okoye believes a huge part of the problem is the corruption in Nigeria. If you have been following the story you will know that there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the Nigerian government and the way they have handled this crisis. Particularly when it was discovered that the Nigerian military blatantly lied about the number of girls that were abducted — they stated only 100 had been taken — and about them all being rescued. The truth is that over 200 innocent girls were stolen and that 14 of them somehow managed to escape and find their way back home.
Okoye appreciates the awareness that is being brought on this issue around the world and thinks this is the only reason that President Jonathan has finally decided to take action.
“I’m happy people outside the country pushed the President to do something. I hope that the awareness leads to the end of the crisis.”
It is important to understand that this is not a Nigerian issue but a human issue. If you would like to join the cause or find out more information please visit the #BringBackOurGirls Facebook page.
