Normally when Omar Epps errrrrrrrrrr Mike Tomlin speaks, I agree with him. He is a no nonsense guy, who usually is a straight shooter, so I am a little surprised at the hyperbole he used in describing how James Harrison is being treated by the NFL for his aggressive play.
Here is what Tomlin had to say about the $125,000 fines Harrison has racked up this season:
“I don’t care how much money you make. I take offense at times just in general how all of us talk about the money,” Tomlin told Alex Marvez and Rich Gannon on Sirius NFL Radio. “He’s got two kids. That’s some serious college schooling right there potentially for those kids 16, 18 years from now.”
I agree with the first portion of Tomlin’s comment— it doesn’t matter if you have $10 or 10 million dollars, it is your money and no one likes their own money to be taken from them.
But the second part of the comment from Tomlin gets:
On April 13th, 2009 James Harrison signed a 6 year 51.75 million contract with over 20 million in guaranteed money.
Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, N.Y is the most expensive college in the United States (yeah I was surprised too) at $57,556 a year.
I am pulling out the BSO calculator.
57k * 2 Kids / Helmet to Helmet + Brett Favre Text Message – Rex Ryan doing the Dougie = $460,448
20 Million >>>> 460K
I think Harrison has a few dollars to spare for his kids, so easy with the sob story. Next thing you know, they will go Spreewell talking about “I got a family to feed”.
