The LPGA had a rule that you had to be born a woman to play on their tour.
Sounds reasonable enough considering that it is the woman’s tour.
That wasn’t good enough for Lana Lawless— not to be confused with Lucy Lawless of Zena fame or Lana Lang from Superman lore:
Players voted Tuesday to amend the organization’s constitution by removing the “female at birth” requirement, LPGA commissioner Michael Whan said. The vote came at a meeting ahead of the LPGA Tour Championship, which starts Thursday at Grand Cypress Golf Club in Orlando.
The change followed a lawsuit filed by a transgender women over the “female at birth” requirement.
Lana Lawless, a 57-year-old who underwent gender reassignment surgery in 2005, filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in San Francisco in October, claiming the policy violates California civil rights laws.
If Tiger doesn’t start winning some tournaments soon, he is going to be sporting a wig and competing as Cheetah Woods.
I imagine if you have the full surgery to “cross over” , you shouldn’t be denied access. But if you are just rocking heels and lace-fronts to appear as a woman, don’t try to manipulate the rules.
