Same ole Jets? On Thursday the Daily News published an article about how close the Jets were to landing Tom Brady as their QB back in 2000, if not for Bill Parcells ignoring a scout who was high on drafting Brady in the 6th round.
The Jets used their first round pick to get Chad Pennington and then come the 6th round decided to go with defensive back Tony Scott, the Patriots would go on to draft Brady 20 picks later.
The news on the surface may sting for Jets fans, but let’s remember the humble roots of Brady’s rise to prominence. He didn’t enter the League as a golden boy, the bloody beat up of Drew Bledsoe on the field by Jets’ linebacker Mo Lewis acted as the catalyst in bring Tom Brady to where he is today.
“If Jets linebacker Mo Lewis didn’t knock out Bledsoe late in the second game of the 2001 season with a serious chest injury—Bledsoe, bleeding internally and losing a liter of blood per hour, nearly died in the ambulance—then who knows if the legend of Brady ever would have been born,”
So thank the sheared blood vessel in Bledsoe’s chest more than the Jets’ ineptitude. But on another note, the Jets fell victim to yet another draft blunder when they took receiver Stephen Hill over Russell Wilson. Pattern going on?
