The outspoken owner of the Dallas Mavericks is back in the headlines after making some pretty candid comments tonight in regards to Pete Carroll and what many are describing as the Seattle Seahawks’ “Super Bowl Blunder”.
If you’re looking for Cuban to come out and publicly blast the decision to “opt-out” of what most of us believe would’ve been a second consecutive title had Marshawn Lynch got the carry, guess again.
Cuban, the billionaire risk taker, is in the vocal minority that believes the decision to pass the ball in that situation was actually the correct call given the circumstances.
While discussing the Seahawks’, and the most epic Super Bowl finish in recent history with Tim MacMahon, Cuban explains:
“If it was me and that happened, I’d be pissed, but I wouldn’t be mad at the coach and I wouldn’t be mad at the call, if they ran it and got stopped, I would be mad. Because then that means you p—— out.
Those people that said, ‘Oh, it’s the worst call ever,’ they’re idiots. Never take advice from someone who doesn’t have to live with the consequences. So what I say is worth what it’s worth, but they’ve never been in a situation where you’ve got to make a call where everything, literally everything, is on the line. If you’re afraid to go with what’s gotten you there, you’re not long for this league.”
Cuban didn’t gain his stature in life by following the norm, and piling on with the crowd. He’s a thinker, able to peruse beyond the surface detail to unveil a deeper cause. And while he admits to not knowing the intricacies for making such a call, he continues with:
“I don’t know if they gave the reason why they called that particular play, but there’s a reason, I’ll go with the logic of that reason versus conventional wisdom every day, because the guys who follow conventional wisdom are the ones looking for jobs right now.”
Touche’ Mr. Cuban. Touche’, but lets not also forget that Seattle has this guy named Marshawn Lynch on their roster, and he led the league in touchdowns with 17 this year.
