The Dallas Cowboys have started offseason workouts with at least one familiar face not there, Dez Bryant. Dez and the Cowboys have been trying to hammer down a long-term deal which hasn’t happened yet forcing the Cowboys to place the franchise tag on Dez, which hasn’t been signed yet either. Dez is set to make nearly $13 million this season under the franchise tag but would much rather have a long-term deal which carries some insurance.
Scott Linehan doesn’t seem to be to worried about Dez not being at workouts.
“He’ll be ready to rock and roll when it’s all said and done, I’m sure of that.”
Linehan is looking at the positive side of Bryant’s absents, it allows younger receivers to get some extra reps.
“You’re kind of practicing on your depth and giving guys an opportunity to work with the first group. Normally that’s not going to happen. You’re kind of isolating that first group – Dez and [Jason Witten] and Terrance only at Z [receiver position]. Now I feel like it gives us a chance to kind of develop guys that normally would be working with the second or third group with our first group. You have to look at it as a great opportunity. I think it’s been really good for our guys.”
These are all true statements by Linehan but I’m sure he would much rather have Dez at practice, leading by example showing the young guys the ropes.
