If fans in Cleveland are disavowing all love for LeBron James, he’s now returned the favor. After Thursday’s game against the 76ers, LeBron corrected a reporter who referred to Cleveland as “your city”.
From the NY Daily News
“It wasn’t my city. It wasn’t my team either,” he said. “I was just a player, you know, I helped get that franchise to leaps and bounds that they haven’t seen before.
“But there were players before me – Mark Price, Larry Nance, Brad Daugherty and guys way before me. The city was not built on LeBron James.”
That’s a far cry from the LeBron who vowed to bring a championship to Cleveland and was allowed to run roughshod over the organization because he was considered their hometown hero. He had every right to seek a new team once his contract expired, but to suggest he was “just a player” on that team is just silly. For all of the unnecessary hate that LeBron receives, there are moments like this when his own thoughtless statements invite more scorn.
