The Jets dropped a bomb this afternoon with the trade of Sheldon Richardson to Seattle for wide receiver Jermaine Kearse. What does the future actually look like for the Jets?
The Jets had their final preseason game of the season and it ended in a victory for the team. However, you can’t help but wonder about their quarterback situation, as per usual when it comes to this team. Christian Hackenberg wasn’t as sharp but nonetheless, it’s only preseason.
Did the Jets, in a sense, do something right by trading Sheldon Richardson? If you’re a fan, you’ve been following the years of “rebuilding mode” closely and you have no clue when it’s going to be over. By gaining Jermaine Kearse, they definitely add some much needed offense. Kearse is extremely clutch and the report of the Seahawks looking to trade him came just a couple of days ago. His 2016 season wasn’t exactly the greatest but I’m sure that he’s looking to turn that around now that he’s in New York.
On the flip side, did the Seahawks defense just get scarier or did head coach Todd Bowles get rid of a headache? Richardson is definitely one great player who will definitely get more play time on the field.
According to Ian Rapoport, Richardson could’ve been traded in the past but the Jets are trying to make their offensive line a lot stronger, although Jermaine Kearse is considered a veteran.
Final trade terms for the #Jets and #Seahawks: NYJ gets WR Jermaine Kearse, a 2nd and a 7th. SEA gets Sheldon Richardson & a 7th.

On the other hand, you have running back Matt Forte, as he’s been keeping his eyes on what’s being reported and has dismissed any rumors of trades, as reported by the NY Daily News.
“Fake news,” the veteran running back said after the Jets’ 16-10 preseason win over the Eagles Thursday night. “There’s nothing to even talk about. Fake news.”
Forte said that he was assured by “the man who makes the moves” (aka general manager Mike Maccagnan) that he’s staying with the Jets.
“He basically told me… don’t listen to the reports,” Forte said. “Not true.”
Forte is still guaranteed $4 million so to trade him-it wouldn’t make sense.
Alas, the 2018 Draft is something to keep in mind if you’re a fan major Jets fan looking for smiles.
The Jets open the season against the Bills on Sunday, September 10.
