According to Sporting News, Todd Wilson, President of the Winnipeg Rifles, resigned after he went out of his white-privileged way to imply that “all black people look alike.”
Wilson thought it would be hilarious to take a picture of a random black employee at the Bell MTS Place Arena, where the Winnipeg Jets play, selling beer.
Then, Wilson captioned the IG post: “Two nights ago, he was in game 7. Tonight, PK Suban [sic] is selling me beer.”
Of course Wilson played dumb and tried to act like he did not know or even intend for his racist Facebook post to actually be racist:
Last night I added a post while at a hockey game. It appears that some people interpreted the post as something other than it was intended. Following the game, I immediately removed the post. For anyone that felt offended, it was certainly not intended that way, but rather a poor attempt at humour. I sincerely apologize for the post and please understand that my comments do not represent any of the organizations that I volunteer with.
Three hours after Wilson issued this “apology,” Wilson was unemployed.
Good joke.
