A former Texas Mayor is awaiting trial after being indicted on federal bribery charges after officials discovered she was using her influence to support a local developer’s projects and ultimately married him.
According to a report by WFAA 8 ABC in Dallas, ex-Richardson Mayor Laura Maczka voted in support of development projects submitted by Mark Jordan.
In exchange for her votes for his project, the indictment says that in addition to a job, Jordan also gave Maczka $18,000 in cash, a $40,000 check, $24,000 in home renovations and paid for luxury hotel stays, airfare upgrades and meals.
Jordan, according to the indictment, paid for Maczka to stay with him at a Holiday Inn Express in Plano; at the Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah at a cost of more than $7,000; at the Corde Valle Resort in San Marten, Calif., and the Ritz-Carlton in Marina del Ray, Calif.
The indictment goes on to say that Maczka denied having a personal relationship with Jordan but later resigned from her position as mayor, took a $150,000 a year job from Jordan, and married him. Maczka and Jordan face a long list of charges including conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud, honest services wire fraud, conspiracy to commit bribery, and bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds.
