According to sources, the report that Los Angeles Laker point guard Lonzo Ball has a torn meniscus was possibly leaked by Lavar Ball and the Big Baller Brand, and not the Los Angeles Lakers.
The news of the injury came at impeccable timing, right before the free agency period started on July 1st. The point guard was frequently the subject of trade talks with the San Antonio Spurs and other teams, but this news would certainly discourage teams from pursuing him. Per Adrian Wojnarowski:
“There is a belief around the Lakers that it was within his [Lonzo Ball] world that it got leaked out there to keep him from being traded. He doesn’t want to be traded from Los Angeles. It wasn’t the Lakers who wanted information on that knee injury. There were a lot of teams that were checking on possible deals with the Lakers, and they had a lot of questions about that knee.”
One has to wonder who the source percolating this story is, and all signs point to the man who claimed all three of his sons would be playing for the Lakers. The looming possibility of Ball being traded so that the Lakers can acquire superstar Kawhi Leonard would threaten that claim.
Ball will supposedly be ready for the start of training camp, but the news will irrefutably cause interested teams to imbibe and proceed with caution.
