A father is being charged with murder after attacking the man who tried to force his way into a bathroom stall his daughter was using.
WBTV Channel 3 reports that Melvin Harris III was picking up his daughter and her two friends from work when they asked to stop at a convenience store. Harris’ daughter went to use the public restroom when Leevon Armstrong barged in after her, shaking her stall door trying to get inside.
Court documents show Harris and his daughter let employees and the hired security guard know what happened. The father allegedly told the guard to “take care of the situation, or he would do it himself.”
According to witnesses, Harris drove his car to a gravel area near where Armstrong was standing. He then allegedly got out and confronted the man before punching him in the face then stomping and kicking him repeatedly after he fell to the ground.
Harris told police he did hit Armstrong only after he swung at him first. Armstrong, a career criminal, later died at the hospital from injuries related to the altercation.
Melvin Harris has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held in jail on a $100,000 bond
