When you talk about the Knicks this season, one sentence that often comes up is, “The tank is real.” However, if you see the way they’re playing, that’s not the case at all. If you ask Trey Burke, the playoffs are still in reach and very much on his mind.
Three in a row- clearly they’re not about tanking but this team has a lot of heart and desire to win. Many fans are set on the lottery but if you’re Trey Burke, you have bigger fish fry and the eighth seed is something that might’ve passed your mind. Here’s what Burke had to say via The New York Post.
“Obviously everyone ‘s counting us out,” Burke told the Post late Sunday at FedEx Forum. “Look on paper, people don’t think we can do it. I think we believe we have a chance — and it’s early for me to say this — but I believe we have a chance to get in the playoffs this year. That should be our goal. I think that is our goal. It starts now.”
Burke has that right as many are counting them out. But change is truly coming; they’re even holding on to leads during the third quarter.
“We’re building habits now and closing out games,” Burke said. “Coach has changed the lineup a few times. He’s trying to see what works. I believe at the pace we’re playing at right now, it’s working to our advantage.”
He certainly set a few records straight with that one. If the Knicks end up with the lottery pick, it’s not because they tanked because they’re truly working hard to win.
You can catch the team tonight facing off against the Pistons at 7 pm EST.
