Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Kawhi Leonard are all packed in one of the most stacked NBA free agencies ever this summer. The KD to the Knicks rumors are still high but staying with the Warriors is a big possibility even after his gruesome Achilles injury. Irving has been in New York a lot lately with the assumption that he could take his talents to the Nets.
According to league sources close to Bleacher Report, KD and Irving have met twice in the past few weeks to discuss playing with each other. The first meeting reportedly went down in the Bay Area when KD first injured his calf in the playoffs. The second took place in New York after KD had surgery for his Achilles injury that he suffered in the Finals.
League sources also signal that KD has not been happy with the Warriors with the way they handled the decision to play him in the Finals. The team was said that KD couldn’t injure himself any worse.
As far as Kawhi Leonard, he just had the best year of his career after his 2017-18 season with the Spurs was filled with tension after they mismanaged his quad injury. He just won the NBA Finals with Toronto and his second Finals MVP award with his second team. The hometown Clippers are in the mix to go after Leonard in free agency and one Eastern Conference VP says that Toronto has a “fighting chance” to re-sign Leonard while the Lakers are moving as if they have a “strong shot” to get him.
The Knicks also feel that they have a chance at Leonard to join KD with the Knicks if Irving goes to the Nets. Leonard recently signed an endorsement deal with Ontario-based Cargojet Airways so that could be part of the indication that he may stay with the Raptors since he’s doing business in Canada.
