California’s new Fair Pay To Play Act has been a hot topic of discussion since it was first been discussed and picked up more steam after it was passed.
The most recent prominent person to speak on the matter is Duke’s head basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski.
On Tuesday at the ACC’s 2019 Operation Basketball preseason event, Coach K shared a statement for support of the new bill saying
“While we have made significant progress in recent years, we have not always responded to the needs and rights of our players swiftly, and frankly, we’re playing catchup after years of stagnant rules.”
I’m not sure what it’d take for the NCAA to adopt a bill like this but having the support of Coach K definitely helps.
I think that if others states such as North Carolina, Texas, and Florida who have many prominent athletic programs between the three adopt a bill like California’s, the NCAA will have no choice but to do the same.
