This is a sad, strange story.
When too much alcohol is involved these type of things happen. Gay has no criminal record and nothing in his past suggests violent activity, so who knows what he was thinking. What we do know is because of his actions a man has lost his life.
One bad decision can cost you your freedom or life, so please keep that in mind when you are out and have an altercation, sometimes it is just better to walk away.
A 23-year-old man faces an initial court appearance today on a murder charge after police say he pushed another man in front of a car driving along a street in Dilworth on Saturday night.
The victim, Robert Kingston III, died after he was struck by the passing vehicle, authorities said.
Kenan Wells Gay, 23, was being held in the Mecklenburg County jail on Sunday and could have a first court appearance today.
Police said witnesses told them the two men had gotten into an altercation inside Ed’s Tavern, at the corner of Park Road and Ideal Way, and it spilled out of the restaurant.
“The man in control of the victim didn’t stop,” Cole wrote in an e-mail to the Observer. “He ran right up to the edge of the street and tossed the other man into the traffic lane, with no pause or delay.”
Kingston was struck moments later.
Thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Robert Kingston.
