Phoenix Suns vs Dallas Mavericks Promises to Be a Nailbiter

After a week-long layoff, the Phoenix Suns (33-22) will play the Dallas Mavericks (32-23) this evening in Dallas.
The Suns have an impressive 19-7 record after beginning the season with a meek 14-15 record following a Christmas loss to the Mavericks.

In the meanwhile, Bradley Beal is expected to return to the starting lineup following a minor hamstring strain. Kyrie Irving is back in the starting lineup for the Mavericks after missing their previous meeting on January 24.

Consequences of the game on season

A lot is at stake for both the Suns and the Mavericks in this game. If a tiebreaker is required at the end of the season to determine postseason placement, the club that wins this game will also win the season series.

With a game to spare against Dallas and a five-seed standing, the Suns could move into play-in territory with a loss. In addition to attempting to move up the standings, Phoenix is also attempting to stave off formidable opposition, especially from Dallas, the New Orleans Pelicans, and the Sacramento Kings.

The Mavericks, who had a lackluster January, are also hoping to move up the rankings after heating up just in time.

Role Players to dictate the game

Naturally, players like Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Luka Doncic are game-changers who have the ability to influence each given game in a certain way. But it’s possible that the role players on both teams will determine how this game turns out.

Dallas Mavericks guards Kyrie Irving (2) and Luka Doncic (77) spa hands following a second quarter play against the Minnesota Timberwolves at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, February 13, 2023.

Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington appear to be a good fit for the Mavericks alongside Derek Lively in the starting lineup. Tim Hardaway Jr., another elite contender for sixth man of the year, plays for Dallas.

The Suns, on the other hand, have undoubtedly done a fantastic job of finding outstanding fits on multiple fronts, from the rock-solid presence of Jusuf Nurkic inside to a wing rotation built around Eric Gordon, Grayson Allen, and Royce O’Neale.
