It finally happened.
Donovan Mitchell is no longer a member of the Utah Jazz and no he wasn’t sent to the Knicks.
In a huge haul for the the 3 time Allstar, the Cavaliers are sending 3 unprotected first round picks, 2 pick swaps, Lauri Markannen, Ochai Agbaji, and Colin Sexton in a sign and trade.
Sexton signs a 4 year $72 million deal in the sign and trade.
Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell is heading to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a blockbuster deal, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Thursday.
The Jazz are receiving Lauri Markkanen, Ochai Agbaji, Collin Sexton, Cleveland’s unprotected first-round picks in 2025, 2027 and 2029 as well as pick swaps in 2026 and 2028, sources said.
Sexton will sign a four-year, $72 million fully guaranteed deal as part of a sign-and-trade agreement with Utah, Rich Paul of KlutchSports told ESPN.
Mitchell, a three-time All-Star who will turn 26 next week, joins a promising young core of Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen in Cleveland. All four players are locked up long-term, with Mitchell under contract for the next three seasons.
The Jazz, meanwhile, remain committed to a rebuild started in July with the trade of All-Star center Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves for five first-round picks. Utah has now gathered 13 unprotected or lightly protected picks through 2029.
It’s a lot for Donovan Mitchell but it seems like it’s worth it because they didn’t want Sexton, Agbaji was just drafted, and Markannen seemed to be the odd man out with Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley. They were a team that reached as high as the 2 seed last season but death with injuries that derailed their season so the trade makes sense because Mitchell gives them a true number one option.
Remember it isn’t how many picks you have it is what you do with them that will determine who won the trade in the long run.
