Times when you hear things like this your reminded that you have done nothing with your life when 8th graders get scholarships. Lets make it sink in a little more, he’s a “soon-to-be” 8th grader. Let me introduce you to a 6 foot, 205 pound Dylan Moses with a broad jump of 9 foot 3 inches and a 34 inch vertical leap. Moses got the scholarship running an impressive 4.46 40-yard dash. Did I tell you guys he’s in the 8th grade and 14 years old?
He was quoted by ESPN saying:
”I was kind of shocked when I first heard it — it was a dream come true. I’ve always wanted to play for LSU since I was a kid, and now it’s coming true in front of my eyes. It means that all my hard work is paying off. All the two-a-days and practices from when I was six on up, it’s paying off right now,” Dylan Moses said.
I thought he was still a kid but thats beside the point, he has a huge commitment to now look forward to. If a scholarship to one of the best Football programs in the country doesn’t make you want to succeed, I don’t know what does.
His father also commented:
“The coaches told me they were offering — and they were serious. I thought they were playing,” Edward Moses (his father) said. “Really, I thought that they were joking around until I saw the serious look on their faces. So I rolled with it. Let’s see where it’s going to end up.”
I commend LSU for giving this boy a scholarship. Even if he can’t commit for another 5 years, having something to work towards and a dream that can become a reality, will make this young man work hard to achieve it. When students are given opportunities and told that they can do anything, their minds soar. Everyone needs the reality that college can be obtained for a better life for themselves and their families, I just hope Dylan Moses uses this as motivation and gives it everything he has and comes out an LSU Tiger.
