The HULK solo movie rights have been in hell for several years.
This is why you have to take this announcement with a grain of salt because it would mean that Disney/Marvel has either regained the rights from Universal or they have come to some agreement similar to how Disney/Marvel and Sony have come to an agreement over Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
I am crossing my fingers though that this report from THE GWW is accurate.
The GWW has learned that a Hulk movie is on the way, and it is currently being called, World War Hulk. Yes, we are finally have a new “solo” Hulk film in active development at Marvel Studios, and we were told it is currently slated to start production in late 2022, likely following the events of the upcoming She-Hulk series on Disney +.
As some know, the reason why Hulk has only gotten one movie so far is because his film rights formerly belonged to Universal Pictures, but if our source is accurate, a new Hulk film means Marvel/Disney has regained the rights, and World War Hulk may only be the first in a series of Hulk films to come.
If you aren’t familiar with the World War Hulk storyline, it goes something like this.
Exiled by a group of Marvel “heroes” to the savage alien planet of Sakaar, the Hulk raged, bled, and conquered in the “Planet Hulk” epic, rising from slave to gladiator to king. Now the Hulk returns to Earth to wreak his terrible vengeance on Iron Man, Reed Richards, Dr. Strange, Black Bolt – and anyone else who gets in the way! The Hulk may just tear this stupid planet in half!
They sort of played with this idea in Thor: Ragnarock with the Hulk being away from Earth and becoming a gladiator. This probably wouldn’t be a direct adaptation, but if the Hulk is happened to be exiled after the events of She-Hulk, then you will see where this is going.
