Running back Saquon Barkley had one of the most remarkable college football seasons in 2017. Racking up more than 2,100 all-purpose yards in what was a break out junior season, it makes perfect sense why Barkley is the top running back prospect going into the 2018 NFL Draft. Barkley, who was born in Bronx, New York actually grew up being a Jets fan. So with the Jets being well.. the Jets, they once again find themselves with an early pick in the upcoming draft. Coincidentally, it appears that the football gods have created a rare opportunity where a top prospect could potentially play for his favorite team. When asked what inspired him to become a Jets fan, this is his reasoning,
“Curtis Martin — I’m a Jets fan growing up. I’m still a Jets fan,” Barkley recently told Sporting News. “Come draft day, all that goes out the window. It would be great for me to be able to play for the team I grew up liking … obviously New York is close to home and would be a great position for me.
With the Jets holding the number six pick, they would likely need to trade up to acquire Saquon before he is taken off the board. However, depending on where and when quarterbacks such as Rosen and Darnold are selected, the former Nittany Lion could still fall right into their laps. Let’s see how it turns out.
