Jameis Winston quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be benched in favor of savvy veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick. Winston has had a season he’d probably like to forget, he was suspended for the first three games of the regular season for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
He returned to the starting lineup against the Bears and threw two interceptions and resulted in a 38-10 loss. It doesn’t get much better for Winston, his only win this year comes against the Cleveland Browns, who recently fired their head coach Hue Jackson. This season Winston has thrown 6 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Compared to Fitzpatrick who has thrown 13 touchdowns and 6 interceptions with a QBR of 119.3.
According to TampaBay.com, Winston is taking the positive approach.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been benched, It’s humbling, and it’s definitely something I can grow from and learn from and you know what, it just adds to the story. I just have to keep working hard. Like I’ve said, every year my goal is to get better and better, and right now, I’m not getting the job done, so I have been replaced and I’m moving forward, yeah. It’s a setback, But it’s a minor setback for a major comeback. It just tells you that you’ve got to continue to get better. I’ve never been in this situation before, so I have to learn from it and I have to grow from it. I have no choice.”
At least he’s staying positive because this is definitely a tough time for the former number one overall pick from the 2015 draft. It’s still a long season and anything is possible, for now, Fitzmagic is in the driver seat.
