There were some significant quarterback transactions throughout the offseason. But the Pittsburgh Steelers have made some commendable market steals as the dust settles ahead of the draft. The Steelers navigated the offseason by acquiring two quarterbacks from the market, Justin Fields and Russell Wilson. In his most recent conference, Coach Tomlin expressed his strong opinions on the acquisition, saying that getting a young talent plus a veteran for pennies on the dollar is a steal.
Earlier this month, Wilson agreed to a career-low salary worth $1.2 million with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The exchange summed up Tomlin’s impression of Wilson’s readiness and why he was the best option. He said,
“The conversations were very fluid and natural. He did his appropriate research on us and I think that that’s probably was one of the more impressive things about the process from my perspective. His level of preparedness in terms of knowing us and who we are and how he might potentially fit, just really put an ease over the process.”

Like everyone else, coach Tomlin is aware of the value that veteran Wilson adds to the Steelers. However, Wilson is relieved about the move because he has struggled with uncertainty at Denver. Fields needed a change of scenery just as much as Russell did since his moments of brilliance weren’t enough to keep him in Chicago.
Pittsburgh Steelers And Their Quarterback Drama
Because of the stolen trade, Mike Tomlin mentions how Justin Fields and Russell Wilson will both assist the Pittsburgh Steelers in returning to their past greatness. Thanks to his NFL expertise, Tomlin mentioned Wilson’s “pole position” in his remarks during the news conference.
“Russell has pole position,” he said, adding, “During this time where we’re not formally working, man, I just think is beneficial, his experience in the National Football League, his process- that’s been honed and perfected.”
Including the young player who has repeatedly demonstrated his excellence on the field gave the Steelers great optimism.
“Justin will be given an opportunity to show his capabilities,” added Tomlin.
Wilson still has hope for the time being, and the Steelers could gain from him. But according to Steeler Nation, ESPN’s Adam Schefter thinks he can be fired if Fields plays better. Wilson therefore has advantages and disadvantages as a low risk player with promising future.
